In 1838, 29-year-old naturalist Charles Darwin was early in his career. He had not developed his theory of evolution, and was not yet a superstar of science. He began ruminating about the possibility of proposing marriage to his cousin Emma Wedgwood. If married, he wrote: "constant companion and a friend in old age; the charms of music and female chit-chat—good things for one's health." If not married: "no children; no one to care for one in old age; less money for books, loss of time, and a duty to work for money." I bring this to your attention, Leo, because I suspect that in 2022, you may be tempted and inspired to deeply interweave your fate with the fates of interesting characters.
