Savvy Spirituality

Incandescent resources for the soul.

Religion is a form of social control I don't subscribe to. (Unless it's in the form Krishnamurti imagined it: five billion unique religions, one for every person on the planet.) Storming the queendom of heaven (not the kingdom), on the other hand, is a full-time spiritual job for me. To aid in this work I borrow elements of tantra, feminism, Qabala, Tarot, and my extensive experience as a shamanic janitor.

On the Internet, I use the following resources for my spiritual play. They're concentrated in the areas of Qabalah, Tarot, and the Western Hermetic tradition.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn

The Builders of the Adytum

Gate to Qabalah

Terence McKenna

I'm also partial to:
Beliefnet.com, a tremendous resource of wise words in troubled times.

The Gnostic Society Library, which presents a tremendous compendium of wisdom and links.

Spiritualist Thomas Moore, who offers Trois cheers for the bricoleur!

Mahatma Gandhi's wise list of Eight human Blunders.

You'll barely miss the smooth tactile click of the stones when visiting RuneCast.com, an online divination tool using the ancient wisdom of the Runes. Nicely written, these intelligent oracles offer some of that instant gratification stuff we read so much about and might just make a hit with some of your inner rumblings.

"Thanks for the [recent] pointer to the RuneCast site!" shouts LINDSEY. "I have grown to love online oracles, my absolute favorite being the Sabian Symbols Oracle. This oracle is also very interesting for those who know their natal degrees, i.e. sun/moon/rising signs -- and also Mercury, Mars and Venus. In my experience, they can give a glimmering glimpse of a soul's purpose, digging deeper into the message of the chart." Great recommendation, Lindsey, and we found a yowza abundance of great astrological links on http://www.zodiacal.com itself, including a cogent essay by the esteemed Robert Hand on the origins of astrology. Good stuff!

Rob is pleased to discover a site devoted to his own mentor, Dane Rudhyar, whom he terms his "first and most important astrology teacher." Khaldea, an excellent site concerned with humanistic astrology, covers Rudhyar's contributions extensively. Begin with their homepage essays, and move on to find the Rudhyar information.

For offline reading, Rob recommends Michael R. Meyer's "A Handbook for the Humanistic Astrologer," newly in reprint. Learn more here.

And as a starting point of inquiry, Rob recommends Rudhyar's The Astrological Houses: The Spectrum of Individual Experience among others.

On the other hand, you could always take yourself to the movies by watching the smart beauty of this cyberfilm on the 100 people.
